REHABILITATION OF DOHWE-MUTUMBA ROAD
REHABILITATION OF DOHWE-MUTUMBA ROAD KICKS OFF IN NAMAYINGO
The Resident District commissioner Eva Kwesiga Nalongo commissions the construction work of Dohwe- Mutumba road.
Construction work on the Dohwe-Mutumba road in Namayingo is set to commence following its official launch. The 5.5-kilometer stretch, connecting Buhemba to Mutumba, Dohwe, and Banda, will be rehabilitated at a cost of UGX 67 million.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony held on Friday at Dohwe Trading Centre, Namayingo District Engineer, Godfrey Kiirya, confirmed that the project falls under the government’s periodic rehabilitation program. He noted that only three kilometer of murram will be applied to the road during this phase.
Kiirya explained that the government had previously introduced a UGX 1 billion road rehabilitation program aimed at full rehabilitation, which involved complete murram coverage. However, it later revised its plan, determining that with the available funds, only 20 kilometerwould undergo full rehabilitation.
The scope of work includes bush clearing, shaping, murram application, culvert installation, widening the road to seven meters (including a two-meter-wide drainage system) and installing speed humps where necessary.
The district engineer said that last year, Namayingo district rehabilitated 100 kilometer of roads. He cautioned residents against blocking the road, warning that such actions could damage drainage systems and compromise road quality.

Rebecca Naigaga, the district secretary for works and technical services, urged the engineering team to ensure homesteads have access passages. She pointed out that in some instances, road access to homes is blocked, prompting residents to reintroduce soil onto the road to regain entry, which ultimately damages the infrastructure.
Mutumba Town Council LC3 Chairperson, Patrick Ogenyi, applauded the government for the initiative but also appealed for attention to other critical roads in the area, such as the Lubira-Luwerere road.
To ensure proper oversight, a road users’ committee was established to monitor construction progress and promote responsible road use among residents.
Resident District Commissioner, Eva Kwesiga Nalongo urged the community to utilize the rehabilitated road for productive purposes.
“The government is investing in development projects, and we must not let these efforts go to waste. Let’s use this road to transport our produce, not for gossip,” she emphasized.
Ronald Sanya, the district chairperson also echoed the importance of maintaining and making good use of the infrastructure to foster local development.
The event was also attended by District Vice Chairperson Abdullah Twaha Kauta, district councillors representing Mutumba and Buhemba sub-counties, technical teamand local community members.
