HANDOVER OF BUYINJA HEALTH CENTRE IV OUTPATIENT DEPARTMENT

A sh. 277m refurbished outpatient department at Buyinja health centre IV in Namayingo town council has been handed over.

The facility was renovated by the USAID’s Regional Health Integrated to Enhance Services in East and Central Uganda (RHITES-EC)

Speaking during the handover, the district chairperson, Ronald Sanya commended RHITES- EC for improving health service delivery in communities.

“This building was started before Namayingo was carved out of Bugiri district. We were stuck to complete it because we didn’t have money,” Sanya said.

He decried over the appalling state of health services in the fishing communities and asked for support.

“Our islanders are still grappling with challenges of poor health services. They move long distances to access services and this has resulted to complications and even death to due delays,” Sanya said adding that Sigulu health facility located on the island should be supported in order to bring services nearer to the people.

Dr. Augustin Muhwezi, the Chief party USAID RHITES-EC project said that they are committed to improve health services in communities.

“RHITES- EC also refurbished the laboratory at Buyinja and equipped it from two to five stars level,” Muhwezi said adding they are pushing for the laboratory to attain international accreditation.

 He said RHITES-EC being an integrated project, it is implementing HIV, TB, Malaria, child and maternal health, Nutrition, WASH, health system strengthening, laboratory service among others.

Edith Namayega, the Chief Administrative Officer said that in order to boost human resource, government has committed additional money towards recruitment of health workers. She also thanked the project for support.

Laura McGough, the URC technical advisor pledged continuous support to improve health services.

 “We are happy to build this relationship between the two countries through improving health services,” Laura said.
